TOPIC: STATE OF THE OCEANS

Yuri Sanada will present what he saw during the Phoenicians Before Columbus Expedition, sailing a replica Phoenician Ship from the year 600 BC, from Tunisia in the north of Africa to Florida, USA. The project took place between September 2019 to February 2020. During the voyage, he collected daily samples of the seawater to measure micro-particles of plastic in the ocean. We’ll talk about land-based pollution and waste dumping impacts and implications on climate, marine species, and the human race. Because he is in Brazil, he will also talk about the state of the Amazon Forest compared to the real lungs of the planet, the phytoplankton in the oceans.

TOPIC: RECREATIONAL Zen Harmony DIVING AND HUMAN HEALTH AND PUBLIC ACTION TO PROTECT OCEANS

Mahendra Shah will talk about Recreational Diving and Human Health – how to do effective breathing, meditative focus, gentle exercise to enhance human health, and at the same time discover the diversity and amazing beauty of the marine world whilst also becoming a conscious voice of the Oceans for actions against pollution and waste dumping in the underwater world. He will explain how to become an ambassador and social voice of the oceanic world to trigger Governments, Businesses, the Scientific Community, and Civil Society to protect the Oceanic World, our most precious natural resource.

TOPIC: FROM ICEBERGS TO OCEANS: UNDERSTANDING WATER, SCIENCES AND SPIRITUALITY
Prof Anders Nilsson will discuss the molecular connectiveness that makes water unique as does the human connectiveness that makes humankind unique and highlight how science and compassion can contribute to the resolution of many of the social, environmental and economic development challenges we are facing. Anders has made substantial scientific contributions to understanding the fundamental properties and structure of liquid water and chemical energy transformations on surfaces that are, for instance, related to artificial photosynthesis. He has authored or co-authored over 250 scientific papers in some of the most prominent journals such as Nature, Science, the Proceedings of the National Academy, Physical Review Letters and the Journal of American Chemical Society. He is also the author of the Gentle Way of the Heart- Discover the Light Within  and his current research on bridging Science and Sustainability is of relevance in understanding the connectiveness and future survival of the living world of the Oceans, Humanity and Nature

TOPIC: FISHING INDUSTRY: OCEANIC POLLUTION AND WASTE DUMPING THREATENS LIVELIHOODS OF FISHERMAN EVERYWHERE

Ramon Lemus has over 17 years of practical experiences around the world starting in Mexico and now in Australia working on the development challenges that the poor face. About 3 billion people in the world rely on wild-caught and farmed seafood as a primary source of protein. Small-scale fisheries contribute around half of global fish catches in developing countries and employ about 90 percent of the world’s capture fishers. Ramon emphasises, “How do we alleviate the problem in our daily actions…. to get off the unsustainable trains of modern lifestyles driven by materialism, greed and power as the primary consequence and source of all the pollution and waste being dumped in the oceanic world”. And that is the key to sustainable development of the oceanic world, our most precious natural resource.

TOPIC: WATER AS A RENEWABLE ENERGY 

Eduard Maldonado with a Master’s Degree of Engineering in Energy and Environment, has developed project over the last 11 years. He will discuss of a variety of model that can be used for cities, depending on their specific situations. The development of modern and affordable district energy systems in cities is one of the least-cost and most-efficient solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy demand. A transition to such systems, combined with energy efficiency measures, could contribute as much as 58 per cent of the carbon dioxide emission reductions required in the energy sector by 2050. District energy allows for a transition away from fossil fuel use and can result in a 30-50 per cent reduction in primary energy consumption. Sea, lake, rivers, geothermal, grey-water … are different source of energy that can be used with high efficiency to provide local energy to cities.

Sanada and Shah are the founders of the not for profit Earth Odyssey Project 2020-2022 (“EOP”) with the goal of mobilizing a global movement, especially the youth and women with men to become action-oriented leaders of worldwide sustainable development actions.

During the Zoom presentation, thought leaders will explore how the global coronavirus crisis can become a source of inspiration for meaningful action. Discussions will be between with a Master Class of Panellists from global experts in their fields, followed by an open Q&A.
