Joerg Altekruse (GERMANY)

Joerg Altekruse is film maker and producer, author, social entrepreneur, ceo and academic.

Born in Dortmund, Germany, he started his formative live with children in a British comprehensive school who could not cope with normal school live. Alongside his studies in architecture, literature, media and language analysis and psychology he started a career as an author for German public radio and television before creating his own production company ZEITFILM MEDIA in Hamburg in 1985.

Stories with an impact for positive change soon became his main focus. His documentary about the Siberian Lake Baykal inspired the creation of an UNESCO World Nature Heritage. “Chernobyl” triggered a support network for the victims of the nuclear catastrophe and the idea for a concert in the derelict city of Pripyat. Numerous documentary films and media campaigns – e.g. about smoking and AIDS – followed. After the 6-part tv series “Tipping Points of Climate” found audiences in more than 60 countries, Joerg Altekruse started Youth4planet.org in the year of the Paris climate agreement 2015. Following a test phase in Germany and nationwide in Luxembourg, the youth4planet smartphone-based research and filmmaking process is now open across age groups, cultures and continents to engage the next generation in telling their vision of a good life within planetary boundaries for all.

With the next Climate Conference ahead in Glasgow, Joerg Altekruse is combining campaigning, filmmaking, art and teaching into an orchestrated “Earthbeat Challenge” as a multistakeholder effort to create visible action towards the Global Goals and beyond. This involves teaming up with organisations that are working in the fields of Food and Agriculture, Rainforests, Animal rights and Diversity, Oceans to start campaigns on these topics.
