Heiner Benking (GERMANY)

Heiner is a journalist, activist, and scholar and has worked as consultant, engineer, advisor and “sherpa” locally and internationally for Governmental, Industry and Civil Society Organizations since the early 70ies, starting his professional Life in Engineering and Development, via Environmental Research and Management, Visualization, Archiving and Knowledge Management: Timeline.

His primary focus is on Education, Culture, Peace-and Policymaking and Capacity-Building projects. He feels our Learning, Sharing and Doing has to be along and across subjects, cultures, languages, sign-systems, scales and times. To make this concrete and set it into context he developed and has built for exhibitions shared Thinking, Solution and Conversation/Mediation „spaces“; which he calls when combined a „Cognitive Panorama“.  Originally he built the ECO-CUBE „Blackbox Nature” exponat. This was described as an indexing space for “Pointers to Possibilites“ or shared Creativity  Spaces,  years before Virtual- and Augmented Reality, Facilities Management and GIS, Spatial and Situational Computing were developed and negotiated.

Heiner feels we need to develop additional competences and capacities, bridging specialist and generalist‘s traits, namely a human and most natural “T-Intelligence“. The holistic and practical need is to address our mind-bugs and boggles, blind spots, narrowness and sense-deprivation, and to develop other means to establish and share “overview and orientation in modern times”.
